Wander the atmospheric, cobblestone lanes of ancient Jinli Street, feeling the past under your feet. Gain profound insights into Chengdu's age-old folk culture at the Chengdu Museum. And truly live like a local by soaking up the city's famous leisurely pace of life in quaint, charming parks and old alleys.
Discovering the Contemporary City
But Chengdu is not just history—it's a thriving modern metropolis. Marvel at the soaring, sleek cityscape from the heights of the IFS building. Indulge in some upscale retail therapy at Taikoo Li's trendy boutiques. Feel the infectious energy of the locals as you stroll the vibrant Chunxi Road. Here, Chengdu's modern prosperity and creative spirit truly come alive.
The Unforgettable Icon: The Panda
Most memorably, you'll meet Chengdu's most cherished residents—the Giant Pandas. Visit the Chengdu Panda Base for a magical, up-close encounter with these treasured creatures. And don't forget to appreciate the playful panda sculpture dramatically scaling the IFS tower—a perfect symbol of Chengdu's blend of tradition and whimsy.
This power-packed, well-rounded tour beautifully illuminates every facet of Chengdu: its deep history and traditions, its modern vibrancy and growth, and of course, its irresistibly charming pandas.
Come, dive into a city built on contrasts, captivating stories, and endlessly mesmerizing moments.
Morning: Giant Panda Base
Meet your guide early in the morning. Since pandas are most active and playful in the cool morning air, we advise an early arrival at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (approx. 17 km from the city center). This is your closest and best opportunity to fulfill your panda dream! The base boasts the world’s largest captive giant panda population. You’ll observe pandas playing, eating, climbing, and if the timing is right (especially in autumn), you might even spot the newborn pink cubs in the Nursery Houses. Look out for the famous internet celebrity panda Hua Hua and Zhi Ma (the real-life inspiration for the World University Games mascot). Don’t miss the smaller, but equally adorable, Red Pandas! Optional: Visit the free Chengdu Giant Panda Museum (closed Mondays; requires advance booking).
Lunch: Included
Afternoon: Chengdu’s Slow Life at People’s Park
After lunch, take a page from the locals’ book and enjoy a leisurely stroll through Chengdu People’s Park (Renmin Park). Witness locals practicing Tai Chi, singing folk songs, playing chess, and enjoying the city’s famed slow lifestyle. A must-see is the Blind Date Corner (marriage market), where parents actively seek partners for their children. Afterwards, settle into a time-honored tea house like Heming Tea House. Sip on fragrant jasmine green tea (a Chengdu favorite), chat with friends, or even dare to try the unique Chengdu Ear Cleaning service, all while locals play mahjong nearby.
Late Afternoon/Evening: Wuhou Temple & Jinli Street
Embark on a historical journey to the renowned Wuhou Temple (Temple of Marquis Wu). Walk in the footsteps of the legendary figures from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, exploring the temple dedicated to Zhuge Liang (the symbol of wisdom and loyalty) and Liu Bei (the charismatic emperor). Discover the fascinating stories of loyalty and strategy. As the sun sets, the nearby Jinli Street truly comes alive! Once ranked among the world’s most beautiful streets by CNN Travel, this street is lined with brilliant Qing Dynasty-style architecture. Browse for authentic souvenirs, sample must-try local street snacks (like Dan Dan Noodles or Bon Bon Chicken), and catch glimpses of intangible cultural heritages such as Sugar Painting or Sichuan Opera.

Stroll through the beautiful Qing Dynasty-style halls, finding a moment of Zen-like reflection. Optional: Indulge in the monastery’s famous vegetarian lunch. Next, head to the Chengdu Museum, the city’s largest comprehensive museum. With a collection of 200,000 objects, you’ll travel through history from the Paleolithic era through the Ming and Qing dynasties, gaining a complete picture of Chengdu’s developmental history. Don’t miss the exhibition on Sichuan’s intangible cultural heritage, including Sichuan opera and teahouse culture.

By Harry Styles(Ghana)September 17, 2021 No other way to get satisfactionI recently completed “The Essential 2-Day Chengdu Journey: Where History Meets the Future” with China Elite Trips Travel, and as a traveler from the U.S., I found the experience both impressive and very well managed.Starting in Chengdu, our arrival went smoothly—airport pick-up, a comfortable downtown hotel, and a friendly local guide who helped us get oriented right away. From there, the itinerary took us through a thoughtfully curated mix of Chengdu’s highlights: we explored ancient neighborhoods, visited iconic historical sites, and experienced the vibrant blend of traditional culture and modern innovation. Some of the standout moments for me: Visiting the Chengdu Panda Base, where I got up close with adorable giant pandas and learned about conservation efforts in a fun, engaging way. Strolling through historic lanes like Jinli Ancient Street, seeing the striking contrast of ancient architecture against futuristic skyscrapers. Touring landmarks such as the Wuhou Temple, Chengdu Museum, and Daci Temple, which deepened my appreciation for Chengdu’s rich history and cultural heritage. Exploring modern hotspots like Chunxi Road and Taikoo Li, sampling authentic Sichuan cuisine—from spicy street-food stalls to refined local restaurants—and discovering the bold, varied flavors of Chinese regional dishes. Being impressed by the logistics: the hotel was well chosen, transportation ran without any hiccups, and the guide was knowledgeable and professional. I highly recommend this tour to fellow American travelers. It offers an excellent balance of history, culture, wildlife, and modern city life—all arranged in a smart, hassle-free manner. Thanks to China Elite Trips Travel for making it an unforgettable short getaway!Date of Experience: October 22, 2025
